rhinoplasty after broken noseMany patients go through traumatic experiences that alter the way their faces look. Often, Dr. Vincent Marin treats patients that have suffered a broken nose. Rhinoplasty surgery can correct functional and aesthetic issues resulting from the broken nose.

Steps to Take after Broken Nose

It’s essential to see a doctor to determine if any functional problems are present. The doctor will examine the patient and take X-rays to determine if any bones or the septum were displaced. If these structures were displaced, initial treatment may be performed to move these structures back into place. However, in most cases, patients will wait at least six months for the nose to heal before proceeding with rhinoplasty. Patients need to remember that complete healing of broken bones must take place before scheduling cosmetic surgery.

Still, patients should schedule a consultation with a skilled rhinoplasty surgeon in the days after the injury. An experienced surgeon can examine the nose and X-rays to develop a surgical plan to correct any functional problems created and address any cosmetic issues resulting from the nose injury. Patients may also choose to have pre-existing cosmetic issues discussed at this time.

Steps to Take after the Nose Has Healed

After the nose has had considerable time to heal, the patient may schedule their rhinoplasty surgery. Patients may be concerned that rhinoplasty surgery may make the nose look or feel worse, especially in the weeks after surgery. After a broken nose, the goal of any rhinoplasty is to restore the nose to its original form and make sure the patient is comfortable with the results. As such, Dr. Marin will first consult the patient to understand any cosmetic concerns. Once Dr. Marin understands what the patient is trying to accomplish, he will discuss how rhinoplasty can help. Dr. Marin has many years of training and can restore the nose to its original form.

What to Expect

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery that is typically performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Marin will make small incisions to access and reshape the cartilage and bone to clear any breathing obstructions and meet the patient’s expectations. After the procedure, the patient will need to spend a short time recovering and will need to wear a splint to ensure proper recovery.

How to Make an Appointment

Before setting up a surgery date, feel free to contact Marin Aesthetics for a consultation. During the consultation, Dr. Marin will discuss the patient’s goals for surgery and develop a plan to accomplish these goals. He will advise patients on the surgical approach and provide information on care during recovery and follow-up appointments.

When rhinoplasty is performed to correct functional problems caused by a broken nose, health insurance may cover all or part of the procedure. Talk to your primary care physician, Dr. Marin, and your insurance company to determine if your surgery can be covered by health insurance.

TO OUR MARIN AESTHETICS PATIENTS:

In light of the state wide restrictions on non-essential businesses to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, we are rescheduling all of our elective appointments until the global circumstances improve. Our necessary post-operative appointments will be made, as needed, to address immediate surgical concerns such as suture removal and acute postoperative issues. All non-acute follow up appointments, fillers and Botox will need to be postponed until after the quarantine period mid April. Our office will reach out to all patients who need to be rescheduled.

We will be offering new patient virtual consultations online and via Skype that can be scheduled through our website or by emailing info@marinaesthetics.com. Also, we will offer follow-up appointments in the same manner to help manage our patients’ concerns while still respecting the need for social distancing.

We appreciate all of your understanding during these difficult times for all of us.
